This incredible print of Peter Stanger’s photo taken of the University of Michigan’s Stadium, often referred to as the Big House, is a truly remarkable aerial view. Not only are you getting to see a game in progress with thousands of adoring fans, but the surrounding area as well, which completely demonstrates Michigan’s wonderful athletic tradition. In the upper left hand corner of the picture is Ferry Field, a track and field sports facility; just to the right of that is the well manicured Ray Fisher baseball diamond; and right behind the stadium is the home of the men’s and women’s basketball teams along with women’s gymnastics, Crisler Arena. Of course, the main focus is the Big House, home of Michigan football, with its ebullient players and cheering fans. Michigan Stadium is one of the most recognized sporting facilities in the country; and no wonder, it was even the largest college owned stadium in the nation back in 1927 when it first opened its doors, with a capacity of 84, 401 . Over the years, it has come to represent the pride, tradition, and excellence of the University. This picture was taken in 1984, which back then the stadium only housed 102,501 loyal fans. Since then improvements have been made, as they have been doing since it was first built, so that the stadium now can seat 107, 501 fans. There is definitely no other place like it on a Saturday afternoon in the fall. This piece has been framed in a thin gold metal frame, so as to not detract from the importance of the picture. In totality, this piece’s dimensions are 36 ¼” x 24 ¼”, and has been protected by plexi-glass, which has a few minor scratches.
